Krav Maga is widely considered to be the ultimate hand-to-hand street fighting discipline. Krav Maga is also one of the most arduous of the fighting techniques practiced today. Regular and strenuous physical training is crucial in order to execute swift defenses and counterattacks, potentially against multiple threats and attackers.
Practice during training sessions often involves multiple attackers using bare hands techniques and/or different weapons. For this reason, Krav practitioners are taught a variety of defensive and counterattacking responses that can be varied as required in different real-life scenarios. These include fast strikes, grappling and take downs to the ground.
Being aware of your situation in real-time is a crucial tenet of the discipline. Practitioners are coached into recognizing danger signs and reacting to them reflexively by repetitive training drills. They are also taught to be aware of additional potential belligerents in addition to those already attacking. To learn how to escape as quickly and as safely as possible is also paramount.
Maximization of all available opportunities and openings is decisive.
Practitioners are also taught to use any makeshift objects that come to hand as potential weapons. In potential life or death situations, practitioners are conditioned to reflexively strike attacker/s.
Attacks and fights are usually chaotic and messy. Practitioners are trained to expect attacks of all types from all directions and angles.
Agility and quick reaction times are crucial.
Blocks and other defenses are not only reflexive but coupled with quasi-simultaneous counterattacks, preferably in blind spots and/or after some form of distraction that can be the initial sequence of a counterstrike. Counterattacks should be aggressive and vicious, and should instantly inflict as much damage and pain as possible in order to maximize the chances of escape and survival. Strikes are also given in a veritable flurry, a drilled and programmed sequence that is designed to overwhelm opponent/s.
